Job Summary

Under direction of senior HNS Spill Response Specialist, provides primary HNS spill response, spill clean-up and environmental support. HNS Spill Response Specialist participates in all daily activities including but not limited to: training/ drills/ exercises, HNS spill response equipment maintenance or repair, equipment deployment, and other duties as assigned. HNS Spill Response Specialists will be on call for response to pollution incidents and may be required to work on vessels, shorelines or in the vicinity of aircraft

Responcibilities:

  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance HNS spill equipment per prescribed maintenance schedules, including mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Perform initial HNS response as required
  • Perform duties onboard vessels assisting the crew as required during drills, training, maintenance or oil spill operations
  • Operate and deploy pollution combating equipment
  • Operate motor vehicles and forklifts (with valid license)
  • Conduct routine facility safety inspections as assigned
  • Comply with all applicable SAIL policies, procedures and directives
  • Assigned, mandatory “on call” responsibilities on a rotational basis
  • Overtime work as required and assigned to carry out emergency and non-emergency duties
  • Completion of preventative and corrective maintenance work orders
  • Completion of Incident Command System communications responsibilities and report
  • Fulfill roles within the incident command system during response activities
  • Assist in the training and development classroom and practical exercises

Accountabilities:

  • Provide primary HNS spill response, spill clean up and environmental support
  • Participate in all daily activities including but not limited to: training/ drills/ exercises, equipment maintenance, drills, equipment deployment
  • Be on call for response to pollution incidents and may be required to work on vessels, shorelines and in the vicinity of aircraft

Requirements:

  • Preferred to have 2+ years experience in participating in HNS response operations to pollution incidents
  • Proven Experience as a maintenance technician or similar role
  • Good technical knowledge of internal combustion engines and hydraulic systems
  • Knowledge of health & safety practices and regulations
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working in the marine environment
  • HNS response  certifications are preferred (eg: HAZMAT, HAZWOPER, IMO HNS Responder course) or equivalent
