Job summary
Under direction of the Senior Oil Spill Response Specialist, provides primary spill response, spill clean-up and environmental support. Spill Response Specialists participate in all daily activities including but not limited to; training/drills/exercises, equipment maintenance or repair, equipment deployment, and other duties as assigned. Spill Response Specialist will be on call for response to pollution incidents and may be required to work on vessels, shorelines or in the vicinity of aircraft.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and corrective maintenance on oil spill equipment as per prescribed maintenance schedules, including mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Perform light duty carpentry, fabrication, and painting as required
- Perform duties onboard vessels assisting the crew as required during drills, training, maintenance, or oil spill operations
- Operate and deploy pollution combating equipment
- Operate motor vehicles and forklifts (with valid license)
- Conduct routine facility safety inspections as assigned
- Comply with all applicable SAIL policies, procedures, and directives
- Assigned, mandatory “on call” responsibilities on a rotational basis
- Overtime work as required and assigned to carry out emergency and non-emergency duties
- Completion of preventative and corrective maintenance work orders
- Completion of Incident Command System communications responsibilities and reports
- Completion of facility safety inspections, inventories and reports as assigned
- Fulfil roles within the incident command system during response activities
- Assist in the training and development classroom and practical exercises
Accountabilities

- Be on call for response to pollution incidents and may be required to work on vessels, shorelines and in the vicinity of aircraft
Requirements
- Preferred to have 2+ year’s experience in participating in response operations to oil pollution incident or marine services
- Experience as a maintenance technician or similar role
- Preferred technical knowledge of internal combustion engines and hydraulic systems
- Knowledge of health & safety practices and regulations
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Diploma or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a related discipline are preferred
